Former Shelby County resident, Anna L. Howard, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday,
August 2, 2019 at Wildwood Health Care in Indianapolis.
Born September 5, 1925 in Liberty, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Grant Turner, Sr. and
Clara (Neal) Turner. She married Dale R. Howard on June 8, 1946, and he preceded her on
April 15, 2003.
Survivors include a daughter- Cathy L. Winkle (husband James) of Indianapolis; 2 brothers-
Robert J. Turner of Indianapolis, Donald R. Turner (wife Gretchen) of Shelbyville, sister Joenita
Barton of Columbus, Indiana; and granddaughter Lynn Ann Crum of Savoy, Illinois. She was
preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, a daughter Christy A. Crum, and brothers-
Frank I. Turner, Rodney Turner, and Grant Turner.
Mrs. Howard had lived in Indianapolis for over 60 years, after moving from Shelbyville. She
had been a secretary with Indiana Bell Telephone and retired after 35 years of service. She
graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1947, and was a member of Indy Decorative Artists,
and was a Regent for Daughters of the American Revolution, New Bethel Chapter.
Anna enjoyed quilting, cooking, genealogy, and metal detecting. She won many awards for her
landscape painting, and she and her husband were Civil War buffs who loved to visit historic
sites and battlefields.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Forest Hill Cemetery
with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. No visitation hours will be observed.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, in
care of the funeral home.
