Carlos Craven Obituary


Carlos Eugene Craven, 95, of Shelbyville, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 7, 2019 at his home.
Born August 3, 1924 in Rushville, he was the son of Leslie Craven and Eva Faye (Stout) Wolters.
He married Margaret (Bird) Craven and she preceded him in 1986.  He then married Christene (Stephens)
Lux on August 5, 1988 and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter Pamela Craven Luckfelt of Ft. Myers, Florida; stepchildren Lesa Lux Johnson
(husband Peter) of Indianapolis, Larry Lux (wife Susan) of Shelbyville, G. Bradley Lux of Shelbyville; sister Donna
Wagoner (husband Gene) of Rushville, brother Wayne Craven (wife Shirley) of Rushville; numerous nieces and
nephews; 2 grandchildren Andrew Lux (wife Heather) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Emily Christine Lux of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, spouse Margaret, brother Curtis Craven, sisters Betty Westfall & Viola Newman.
Carlos joined the US Army immediately out of high school and was assigned to Company G, 264th Infantry, 66th Army Division.
He served in France, Germany, and Austria for 4 years, achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant.  After combat duty, he was assigned to 
General Mark Clark's Honor Guard and also to the troops guarding the Lipizzan Horses in Vienna, Austria.  Among his medals were 2 bronze
stars.  General George Patton was his hero, and he read the books and visited all the museums concerning Patton.
After his discharge, he began work at Farmer's National Bank.  He was called back to service and spent 18 months in Korea.  
While in Korea, he was awarded the Purple Heart.  After discharge, he returned to work at Farmer's Bank, and was promoted  from teller
 to President and CEO. He was proud of his accomplishments in Shelbyville's development and his personal service to his many friends 
and clients in his 44 years in the banking business.  He was a well-known and respected businessman and very active in 
Shelbyville and Shelby County. Some of his many service and civic organizations included Drive Chairman and President of 
Shelby County United Fund; President of Shelby County Chamber of Commerce; and President of Indiana Bankers Association. 
He was also an original founder of and Board member of the Shelbyville Boys Club. He served as President of 
Shelby County Industrial Development, Chairman of the Board for Circle 7 Training Council, and served as President of Region 5 
Indiana Bankers Association. Carlos was voted "Man of the Year" by the Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the Masons for 50 years achieving  the 32nd Degree.  
Carlos was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Banking and was one of the original founders of Shelbyville's first 
cable company. He enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting in South Dakota and quail hunting in Georgia. He enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts,
 Indiana Pacers, and Indiana University  basketball. Carlos and Christene enjoyed their winters in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was a wonderful husband,  father, 
 loving grandfather and loved all his family. He was blessed with many true friends and will be missed by many forever.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Esslinger and the angels at Hospice for their loving care. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road,
with Pastor Steve Bohall officiating.  Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Friends may call on Thursday evening, from 3:00 pm
until 7:00 pm, at the funeral home.  Graveside military rites will be conducted by a local veterans organization. A  Masonic service
will be held on Thursdays afternoon at 2:45 pm, prior to public viewing.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shelbyville Boy's Club or First Church of the Nazarene, in care of the funeral home.
