Born in Shelbyville, IN, July 6, 1964, he was a son of Beverly Jo Shelhorn Hewitt and the late Gary William Hewitt.

He was also a certified paralegal and a volunteer divorce mediator for the courts. Gary enjoyed the simple things of life like good music, the sound of birds, and he enjoyed playing the guitar.
