Howell E. "Hal" Covington, 65, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019
at his home.
Born October 15, 1953 in Shelby, North Carolina, he was the son of Howell E. Covington, Sr.
and Shirley (Griffith) Covington. He married Brenda (Hamilton) Covington on August 15, 1972
and she survives.
Other survivors include 2 daughters- Misty Engle (husband Brady) of Venice, Florida, Christy Terry
(husband Danny) of Shelbyville; step father Jim Skillman of Shelbyville; 3 sisters- Linda Covington
Richards, Lisa Kitchin (husband Terry), Mary Phares (husband Mickey), all of Shelbyville; half
brothers Jimmy Skillman (wife Amanda) of Shelbyville, Dale Covington, David Covington, both of
Marietta; and 3 grandchildren- Luke Engle, Macy Engle, and Deacon Hal Covington. He was preceded
in death by his parents.
Mr. Covington had lived in this area most of his lifetime. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in
1972, and attended Hope's Point Baptist Church. He had been employed as a meat cutter/meat manager
with Krogers for 10 years, and previously had worked at Meredian Automotive as a liaison engineer for
14 years. Earlier he had been a meat cutter/partner with Ranch/Western Market for over 20 years.
Hal enjoyed singing and playing guitar, fishing, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and spending
time with his family.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home,
437 Amos Road with Pastor Ed Mohr officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on
Saturday morning at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
