Jean Scheffler, 93, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Columbus Transitional Care
in Columbus, Indiana.
Born October 28, 1925 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, she was the daughter of Edward Mulligan and Evelyn
(Meritt) Mulligan. She graduated from Elmhurst High School in Ft. Wayne in 1943.
In 1941, she met the love of he life, Raymond Scheffler, and on January 29, 1944 they were married in
Waco, Texas. Jean followed Raymond to his assignments as he completed his military training for WWII.
While Raymond served overseas, Jean supported the war effort by working as a quality inspector
for airplane engines in California. After the war they moved to Ft. Wayne, and began raising their family.
In 1953 they moved to Shelbyville.
Jean was a home maker and assisted her husband on the family farm. She was an amateur radio operator
(WA9BWT) and was a member of the Military Auxiliary Radio Service which provides phone patches for
military personnel around the world. She was an avid knitter, weaver, and spinner, and enjoyed oil painting.
She had an adventurous streak and loved to travel.
She is survived by her husband of 75 years, Raymond, 4 children- Vicky Goode of Reelsville, Indiana, Raymond
Scheffler, Jr. of Valrico, Florida, Ellen Scheffler of Columbus, John Scheffler of Columbus; 6 grandchildren,
7 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437
Amos Road, with Rev. Ronnie Caine officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
Memorial donations in Jean's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.
