Jerry Ayers Obituary


Jerry C. Ayers, 71, of Fairland, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Franciscan Health.
Born May 9, 1947 in Ewing, Virginia, he was the son of .Grace Ayers.  He married Cheryl (Cook)
Ayers and she survives.
Other survivors include 2 daughters- Lisa Boswell of Fairland, Marcia Hazlett (companion Jesse
Collins) of New Palestine; sister Ellen Tracy of Oklahoma; niece Laura Pike of Oklahoma; 
4 grandchildren, Chelce Hazlett, Ricky Hazlett, Misty Hazlett, Katina Boswell; 6 great
grand children, Jaeden Shorter, Hailie Shorter, Tyler Etheridge, Paul Childers, Daryn Childers,
Israel Childers, and several other children who called him Papaw.  He was preceded in death by his
mother, brother John Hensley, and sister Lillian Hensley.
Mr. Ayers had lived in this area for most of his lifetime. He attended Thomas Walker High School
in Virginia and was a US Army Veteran. He worked at Knauf Fiberglass for 30 years, retiring
in 2008. He was a member of The Creek Church in Indianapolis and also a member of American
Legion Post #70. 
Jerry enjoyed deep sea fishing, vacationing in Florida, Harleys, and mowing his yard.  He loved children
and spending time with family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 6:00 pm, on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437
Amos Rd, Shelbyville. Visitation will be observed from 4:00 pm until the time of the service. Military rites
will be conducted by a local veterans organization. 
Memorial contributions can be made to Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home
