Marilyn Abner Obituary


Marilyn Jane Abner, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital.
Born August 11, 1930 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Lawrence Eugene Rinehart and Helen
Elizabeth (Van Noy) Rinehart.  She married Jack Lawrence on April 7, 1950 and he passed away on
January 31, 1989.  She also married Albert "Pete" Abner on November 1, 1975 and he preceded her
on December 11, 1992.
Survivors include 6 children- Linda Nugent (husband Steve) of Fountaintown, Cinda Laird (husband Kent)
of Shelbyville, Sherri Tandy of Fairland, Ann Laverty of Georgetown, Nanette Winkler of Shelbyville,
Jack Lawrence (wife Jane) of Camden, Delaware; stepchildren Gary Abner of Shelbyville, Angie Abner
Brown (husband Eric) of Flat Rock; half brother Alan Borneman (wife Suzie) of Fishers, step brother
Bob Borneman (wife Linda) of Fairland; 18 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren.  She was preceded
in death by her parents, and 2 spouses.
Mrs. Abner was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville, and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1948.
She had been employed as an office worker at KCL Corp. and First Christian Church for 30 years. She 
was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary,
and St. Joe Social Club.  
Marilyn was an avid animal lover.  She loved her dogs Friskie Jane and Bitsy Jane, and her cat Callie
aka Miss America, and enjoyed feeding every bird in Shelby County.  She dearly loved her family,
grandchildren, and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home,
437 Amos Road, with visitation there from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Pastor Bill Horner will
officiate, and burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to First Christian Church, 118 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
