Nyla Barnes Obituary


Nyla J. Barnes, 62, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at her home.
Born September 8, 1957 in Columbus, Indiana, she was the daughter of Walter R. Elgar and
Florence M. (Julian) Elgar.  She married David A. Barnes in 1988 and he survives.
Other survivors include her mother Florence Toll of Columbus; 3 children- son Justin
Stone (wife Meredith) of Dunnellon, Florida, daughter Lesley Grimes (husband Garet) of Greenwood, 
son Nathan Barnes (wife Kayte) of Shelbyville; sisters Nancy Wolfe of Columbus, Shawna Horne
(husband David) of Hannah, Indiana, brothers- Larry Elgar (wife Shirley) of Columbus, Gary Elgar of
Elizabethtown, Harold Elgar of Scipio; 2 grandsons- Jase Stone of Dunnellon, Florida, Brantley Barnes
of Shelbyville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in 
death by her father, Walter Elgar, and step father John Toll.
Mrs. Barnes had lived in this area for 25 years.  She had been a home maker for 10 years, and had been
employed by State Farm Insurance in Greenwood for 9 years, and had also been a nanny for 7 years.
She was a preschool aide at Cornerstone Baptist Academy and taught Sunday School at several 
Baptist churches over the years.  She was a member of Lawrence Baptist Church and actively involved
in the childrens ministry. 
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home,
437 Amos Road, with Pastor Tom Mcdonnell officiating.  Visitation will be observed from 11:00 am until the
time of the service.  Burial will be in Miller Cemetery.
