Carole Louise Hardin, 89, of Shelbyville, passed peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at her residence. It had always been her wish to pass in her sleep "Mom, your wish came true!"
Born September 30, 1934 in New Palestine, she was the daughter of Carl Schwier and Ruth (Lichtenberg) Schwier. She married George Hardin on September 18, 1954 and he preceded her in July 2008.
Survivors include 2 daughters- Kimberly Ann Hardin of Shelbyville and Denise Lynn Coffey (Mike) of Shelbyville; 2 grandchildren- Sarah Lynn Waninger (Daniel), Paul Michael Coffey (Kerri); 3 great grandchildren- Jonah Michael Waninger, Micah David Waninger and Caroline Wray Coffey.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, 6 siblings and their spouse's- Irene Woods (Robert), Maxine Curry (Russel), Donald Schwier (Mae), Byron Schwier (Delores), Ruth Ann Deskins (John), Judy Schwier, and nephew Gregory Deskins whom George & Carole helped raise later in their life.
Mrs. Hardin was a lifetime resident of this area and was a homemaker. She graduated from New Palestine High School in 1952, and just recently attended her 71st class reunion in October. She was always proud to say that she attended a one room school house- Zion Lutheran, for 8 years before attending New Palestine High School, and was always glad to gather with her former friends from school including Betty, Charlene, & Joyce to name a few.
Carole was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine and she was one of the first to be employed by the US Army Finance Center, when it moved to Fort Harrison from St. Louis. Carole loved attending the annual Schwier family reunion in August, and eagerly anticipated it. Carole was proud to have been born on her mother's birthday, and to also have been named after a famous actress, Carole Lombard.
