David E. Clayton

David E. Clayton, 72, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at his residence.

Born May 27, 1950 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Garnet Clayton and Marianne (Justus) Clayton. He married Betty (Planck) Clayton on September 19, 1970, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage bliss together.

Survivors include a daughter- Stephanie Bishop (Alex) of Columbus, a son Andrew Clayton (wife Carmela) of Indianapolis; family friend whom David considered his daughter- Susie Begley of Austin, Indiana; and 2 grandchildren- Scarlet & Mallarie Clayton.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Clayton had lived in Indianapolis since 2016, after moving from Shelbyville. He retired in 2005, after 37 years of service,  from Duke Energy, where he worked in sub station maintenance.  He was affectionally known as "Cricket" while employed with Duke.  He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1968, and was a US Air Force veteran.

David enjoyed traveling, golfing, dining out, visiting the casino, but most of all, he loved the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating.Burial will be in Miller Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion.
