Obituary


Ethel M. Kent, 87, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at Heritage House. Born January 4, 1935 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Richard
Harding and Lula Mae (Cannada) Harding Stockwell.  She married Harry Kent on October 6, 1967  and he preceded her on July 26, 2018.

Survivors include 2 sons- David New (wife Sandy) of Madeira Beach Florida, Danny New of Shelbyville; a brother- George Harding (wife Jackie) of Shelbyville, 2 sisters- Ellen Goldman of Southport, and Sharon Durbin (husband Johnnie) of Indiana; and 8 grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, daughter Teresa New Phillips Hamner , stepfather Robert  Stockwell, 3 brothers- Harold Harding, Lawrence Harding, infant Dewey Harding, and a sister Barbara Weaver.

Mrs. Kent had lived in this area for most of her lifetime, was  baptized at Town & Country Christian Church, and was a member of Eastern Star #73.  She was a home maker, but had previously worked at KCL for 8 years, Shelbyville Central Schools as a reading tutor and teachers aide, and also worked at Hook's Drugs for a few years. Ethel enjoyed crafting, crocheting, genealogy, and scrap booking.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am on Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Humphrey  officiating.  No visiting hours will be observed.

Memorial contributions can be made to Order of Eastern Star #73, or OUR Hospice of South Central Indiana, in care of the funeral home.
