Franklin Chambers Obituary


Franklin L. Chambers, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Born April 6, 1928  in St. Paul, he was the son of John Ambrose Chambers and Freida Faye (Friday)
Chambers.  He married Marilyn Sue (Perry) Chambers on November 27, 1954 and she preceded him
on November 9, 2016.
Survivors include 4 children- Debra Mathies (husband Steve) of Shelbyville, Linda Garrett (husband Steven)
of Greensburg, Darlene Clark of Shelbyville, Larry Chambers of  Shelbyville ; 2 siblings- Doris Rasche of DuBois, Carl
Chambers of Shelbyville, 9 grandchildren- Jamin Clark (wife Kristy), Amy Erwin (husband Brian), Nikki Adams
(Andy Eads), Chanda Dick (husband Dana), Nathan Adams (wife Erica), Tate Linville (wife Meagan), Natasha
Wagner, Myka Worth (husband Stone), Samatha Chambers; 11 great grandchildren- Rylee, Emily, Sara, McKenna,
Ian, Abigail, Clare, Kody, Eryn, Emmaline, Quinton; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death
by his parents, his spouse, brother John Jr., and sisters Margaret and Helen.
Mr. Chambers had lived in St. Paul for 65 years, and Pleasure Valley for 24 years.  He graduated from Manilla 
High School.  He was a 39 + year employee of Penn Central, New York Central, and Conrail railroads, earning the
Outstanding employee Award from Conrail in 1988.  After retiring from the railroads, he then went to work for  Major
Hospital in the engineering dept. for 27 years, retiring in 2017. 
Frank loved sports and enjoyed playing and coaching.  He was a multiple softball/baseball coach for Mathies Landscaping, 
a Babe Ruth coach, played for multiple fast and slow pitch teams, including The Shelby Sting, Kerasun, Silver Foxes, and was named
to the All Star railroad team in 2010.  He supervised the softball league and diamond in St. Paul, supervised St. Paul gym
volleyball and basketball programs,  raced cart ponies,  provided maintenance at Flat Rock YMCA, and was a Boy Scout leader.
He also served for a time as the St. Paul Volunteer Fire Dept. Fire Chief.  He was a US Air Force veteran.
Funeral services will be 6:00 pm on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road,
with   Pastor Bill Horner officiating.  Friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 pm until the time of the service, at the funeral
home.  Burial will be in Paul Hill Cemetery in St. Paul on Monday morning, April 26, 2021 at 9:00 am.  Military rites will be
conducted by a local veterans organization.
