He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Bob Goodwin; one grandchild, Clint Allen; and one great-grandchild, Owen Grubbs.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Shelby County, a member of Zion Evangelical Church, and a 1951 graduate of Waldron High School where he developed impressive woodworking skills under the tutelage of his favorite teacher, Mr. Trotter. Upon graduation, Gene was employed as a truck driver, delivering goods to area A&P stores for many years. Additionally, Gene served the local area for 8 years as a real estate agent for Kitchen Realty. After retiring from that career, Gene put his craftmanship skills and attention to detail to good use restoring antique engines, building and restoring furniture, and exhibiting flowers at state and national shows. Two of his crowning achievements involved the tear-down and reconstruction of two historic log cabins.
Gene was an avid outdoorsman and collector of firearms, knives, and frontier memorabilia. He very much enjoyed participating at the annual Pioneer Days event as a member of the Shelby County Historical Society for which he served as a board member for many years. But, most of all, Gene enjoyed time spent with his growing family while embracing life’s events.
