Jean Solomon Obituary

Jean Marie Solomon, 91, former Shelby County resident, passed away Friday,
December 4, 2020 at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Center.
Born May 20, 1929 in Franklin, she was the daughter of Virgil T. Doles and Lois
Nell (Inlow) Doles.  She married Wayne "Fritz" Solomon on November 27, 1947
and he preceded her on August 25, 2009.
Survivors include 2 sons- David Wayne Solomon of Manilla, Thomas Scott Solomon
of Franklin, one daughter Elizabeth A. Arthur (husband Jon) of St. Paul; a brother-
Robert T. Doles (wife Phyllis) of Franklin; 5 grandchildren- Alison Arthur (husband Kevin),
Andrea Jackson (husband Timothy), John M. Aberle, Sarah Solomon, and Daniel Solomon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, a daughter Rebecca Jean Aberle,
daughter-in-law Terrie Solomon, and sister-in-law Barbara Doles.
Mrs. Solomon was a lifelong resident of this area, graduated Valedictorian of her class from
Waldron High School in 1947.  She had been a teacher's aide at Addison Township and
Waldron Elementary Schools for many years.  She had previously worked in her father's
grocery, Dole's Grocery in Blue Ridge, and Jester's Department Store in Shelbyville for
several years.  She was a member of Blue Ridge Christian Union Church, and attended
Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin.  She was a member of Waldron Eastern Star,
Cynthianne's Home Extension Club, and Blue Ridge Christian Church Ladies' Aid Society.
Jean enjoyed traveling to Brown County, the Smokies, and Canada.  She loved tea parties
with her grandchildren, collecting tea cups, and hats, making and giving away gingerbread
houses, and would rather watch the hummingbirds outside her window than watch tv.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Blue Ridge Christian
Union Church, 466 S. 775 E. Shelbyville, with Rev. David Doles & Rev. Dennis Hirschauer
officiating.  Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.  Friends may call on Wednesday morning
from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the church.  Those attending should wear a
face mask, and observe social distancing.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Blue Ridge Cemetery Fund, or the Otterbein
