Jerry Thomas Obituary

Jerry L. Thomas, age 75, of Shelbyville, has gone to be with the Good Lord on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Homeview Health and Rehab Center in Franklin. 

Born May 18, 1948, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Neal and Kathleen Virginia (Brooks) Thomas. He married Carolyn Anspaugh on January 13, 1971 and she passed away July 20, 2011.

Survivors include three sisters: Sandra Copeland of Shelbyville, Patty Seabee of Southern Indiana, and Vicki (Tim) Stakelbeck of Franklin, IN. He is also survived by special and best friend, Mildred McClain of Shelbyville; 4 great great-nephews: Noah Roland and Bo Roland, both of Middletown, IN; Theo and Carter Monto, both of Shiloh, IL; niece, Amy (Ken) Carter of Greenfield, IN;  2 great nieces: Casie (Mike) Monto of Shiloh, IL; and Brittney (Kevin) Roland of Middletown, IN; and a great nephew, Trevor Carter of Greenfield, IN. and many more nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, parents, in-laws, and 4 brothers-in-law.

Jerry was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville. He retired from Finish Line in 2009 after completing 10 years in security. He had also been an independent distributor for Klosterman Bakery from 1988-2001; and was Assistant Manager of Chemlawn's South Branch in Indianapolis from 1975-1988. Jerry graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1967 and earned an Associates of Science degree from Ball State in 1969. He was an avid I.U. basketball fan.

Jerry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Fun Bunch; was a founding member of the Moose Lodge; served several officer capacities for the JayCees; served on the Board of Directors for the Babe Ruth Ball Park; and was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway Street in Shelbyville with Father Mike Keucher officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening, December 15, 2023 from 5 - 8pm at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, In. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, Shelby County Cancer Association, or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
