John T. O'Brien

John T. O'Brien, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Community
North Heart Hospital.
Born January 24, 1938 in Beech Grove, he was the son of John Francis O'Brien and Gladys
(Oakes) O'Brien.  He married Kathleen (Spurling) O'Brien on January 25, 1964 and she survives.
Other survivors include his brother Michael O'Brien (wife Ingrid) of Indianapolis.  He was preceded 
in death by his parents, and a half brother Robert.
Mr. O'Brien had lived in this area for most of her lifetime, and was a supervisor in the recreation
department with the Correctional Industrial Facility in Pendleton for 16 years, retiring in 2005.  He
also had been an art teacher with Pike Township Schools for a few years.  He graduated from
Howe High School in 1957, and graduated from  Indiana University with both  Bachelor of Arts   
and  Master of Science degrees.  He was a member of Indiana University Alumni and was a US
Air Force veteran.
John enjoyed bowling, fishing,  watching sports, and was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan.
A graveside service will be 2:00 pm on Monday, December 9, 2019 at Forest Hill Cemetery
with Pastor Harvey Taylor officiating. No visitation hours will be observed, but military rites
will be conducted by a local veterans organization.
