John Thornburg Obituary


John T. Thornburg, 77, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020
at MHP Medical Center.
Born on December 23, 1942 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Charles Arthur
Thornburg and Martha Jane (Weintraut) Thornburg.  He married Rita Thornburg
on May 21, 1966 and she survives.
Other survivors include 3 daughters- Shannon Thornburg of Shelbyville, Cindy Nedderman
(husband John) of St. Paul, Jeannette Leffew (husband Scott) of Shelbyville; one brother
Don Thornburg of Clearwater, Florida, sister Sue Berauer (husband Robert) of Shelbyville;
8 grandchildren- Brittany Ross (husband Caleb), Cortney Engelhardt (husband Garrett), 
Taylor Babbitt, Ashlee Isley (husband Josh), Caleb Tackett, Christian Leffew, Jonathan
Nedderman (wife Alena), Natasha Greene (husband Jason); and 9 great grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Mike Thornburg.
Mr. Thornburg was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Shelbyville High
School in 1961.  He had been a machinist at Thornburg Machine for 30 years and with 
Freudenburg in Shelbyville, working for 28 years before retiring.  He was a US Army
veteran.
John enjoyed life and had fun living it.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Glenn E. George & Son
Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Robert Williams officiating.  Friends may call on
Tuesday evening, June 2, 2020 from 4:00 pm  until 8:00 pm, and then on Wednesday
morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Burial will be in Union Chapel
Cemetery in Decatur County. 
Memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, in care of the funeral home.
