Lou Ann Franklin Obituary


Lou Ann Franklin, 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2020 at
MHP Medical Center.
Born August 19, 1935 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Scott D. Pope and
Stella (Bales) Pope.  She married Joe E. Franklin on November 30, 1962 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter Vicki Franklin of Shelbyville; a brother Jack Pope (wife
Pat) of Waldron, sister Fay Iorio of Hebron, Indiana; one grandchild Jennessa Franklin-Saylor
(spouse Dusty) of Ft. Myers, Florida; 4 step grandchildren- Araceli, Leticia, Selena, Giovanni;
and 2 step great grandchildren- Kingston & Elizabeth.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Franklin was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Waldron High School in 1953,
and attended Ball State University for one year.  She was owner/operator of Pope's Gambles Store
in Waldron for many years, as well as a lifetime member of the Waldron United Methodist Church.
She also held various board positions at the church, was a member of the choir, and was currently the
Membership Secretary for the church, and a former member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors.
Lou Ann was an avid collector of clowns, having a collection of over 1500 clowns.  She was very devoted
to her church and church activities, enjoyed playing cards with her friends, and loved spending time with 
he family.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Waldron United Methodist Church,
202 W. Washington St., Waldron, with Pastor David Galbraith officiating.   Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday evening, February 17, 2020 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Glenn E. George
& Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, and on Tuesday morning at the church  from 10:00 am until the time
of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to Waldron United Methodist Church or the Shelbyville/Shelby County
Animal Shelter, in care of the funeral home.
