Mabel Ann Barnes, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021
at her residence.
Born April 27, 1942 in North Vernon, she was the daughter of Elmer W. Dean
and Anna Mae (Keith) Dean. She married Wm. David Barnes on September 20, 1959
and he survives.
Other survivors include 6 children- William David Barnes II (wife Jayne) of Shelbyville,
Christopher Anthony Barnes (wife Annette) of Shelbyville, Mark Delane Barnes of Shelbyville,
Kimberly Beth Brown (husband Tab) of Shelbyville, Anissa Mae "Buffy" Powers (husband
Jeffrey) of Blue Ridge, Amy Renae Price (husband Mark) of Shelbyville; 14 grandchildren,
many great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by
her parents, 2 grandchildren- Amber Christine Barnes, Alisha Lee Maynard; 5 brothers-
Manford, George M., Lewis, Eddie, & George E. Dean; 3 sisters- Martha Janett Dean,
Opal Dean, & Beverly Dean.
Mrs. Barnes had lived in this area since 1957, after moving from Jennings County. She was
a homemaker, and had previously worked a s nurse's aide for New Adventure Home Care
for 3 years, retiring in 1982. She attended Shelbyville High School and was a member of
Shelbyville Christian Fellowship Church.
Mabel enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, fishing, reading, the outdoors, and spending
time with her family. She loved sponsoring Indian children through the St. Joseph's Indian
School program.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral
Home, 437 Amos Road, with Rev. Dennis Hirschauer officiating. Friends may call on Thursday
evening, July 8, 2021 from 4:00pm until 8:00 pm, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak
Grove Cemetery in Jennings County.
