Martha Fortner Obituary


Martha A. Fortner, 92, of Shelbyville, former Decatur County resident, passed away Friday,
November 6, 2020 at Heritage House.
Born June 3, 1928 in Decatur County, she was the daughter of Ralph and Ethel (Scripture)
Conk.  She married Donald Fortner in 1947 and he preceded her on June 8, 2010.
Survivors include a son Michael Fortner (wife Dee) of Milford, a daughter Marilyn Pickett
(husband Morris) of Shelbyville; 5 grandchildren- Jim Wilkins (wife Reggie), Amy Morning
(husband Randy), Mike Fortner (wife Karrie), Heather Powers (husband Bob), Renee Pickett; and several
great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, 2 brothers, 
and one sister.
Mrs. Fortner was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Burney High School
in 1946.  She had been a factory worker for 36 years with GE/Wellman's, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Milford Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society.
Martha enjoyed playing Bingo and attending church.  She was an avid Indiana University
basketball fan, and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Glenn E. George 
Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin Street, St. Paul, with Pastor George Mitchell officiating.
Burial will be in Milford Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday
morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to Shelbyville/Shelby County  Animal Shelter, or
Turning Point Domestic Violence Services of Shelby County, in care of the funeral home.
