Michael K. Van Gorden, 49, of Flat Rock, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019
at OUR Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born July 25, 1970 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Harry Van Gorden and Theresa
(McNicholas) Comstock. He married Rhonda (Gosser) Van Gorden on May 21, 1994
and she survives.
Survivors include his mother Theresa Comstock ( husband Steve) of Shelbyville,
children Madison Van Gorden and Kirk Van Gorden, both of
Flat Rock; sisters- Lori Pierce of Shelbyville, Julie Zell (husband Bryan) of Greenfield,
Leigh Ann Mills (husband Mike) of Shelbyville; brothers- Matt Comstock (wife Marla)
of Shelbyville, Aaron Comstock (wife Brenda) of Shelbyville, Phillip Comstock of
Shelbyville, Andy Comstock (wife Tammy) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and several
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mr. Van Gorden had lived in this area his entire lifetime and graduated from Shelbyville
High School in 1988. He was a member of Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church, and
had been employed with Indiana National Guard for 30 years, attaining the rank of Master
Sgt.
Michael loved serving his country, where he was deployed twice overseas, to Bosnia and Iraq,
attending his children's sporting events, cooking, shopping, and his cats. He enjoyed spending
time with his family and loved living life in general.
Funeral service will be 10:00am on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Glenn E. George & Son
Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Bro. Danny Coomer and Bro. Josh Coomer officiating.
Burial will be in Norristown Cemetery. Visitation will be observed on Friday evening,
October 25, 2019, from 4:00 -8:00 pm at the funeral home.
