Mavern R. Newton, 99, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 at
Morristown Manor.
Born February 15, 1921 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Elmer and
Mamie (Wood) Snyder. She married Bill Newton on September 1, 1973 and he
preceded her on January 24, 2012.
Survivors include 2 sons- Steve Fair (wife Jerrel) of Shelbyville, Bruce Fair (wife
Deloris) of Atlanta, Georgia, 3 daughters- Benita Kuhn (husband Roger) of New
Palestine, Susan Fischer (husband Mark) of Shelbyville, Ann Whitaker of Manilla;
9 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her
parents, spouse, a brother Jack Snyder, sister Virginia Weaver, and son-in-law Randy
Whitaker.
Mrs. Newton was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a home maker. She
graduated from Napoleon High School in 1939, and was a member of the West
Street United Methodist Church. She had previously worked as a sales clerk for
the Diana Shop in Shelbyville for 18 years.
Mavern enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Glenn E. George &
Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Robert E. Keck officiating. Burial will
be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be observed on Friday morning from 10:00 am
until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to West Street United Methodist Church General
Fund, in care of the funeral home.
