Melissa A, Martin

Melissa A. Martin, 51, passed away on April 27, 2023, at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. 

She was born October 1, 1971, to Gary D. Helvey and Rosalie (Hersley) Smothers in Phoenix, Arizona. She married Philip A. Martin on December 12, 1992, and he preceded her in death in 2018.

Survivors include Mother Rosalie (Husband James) Smothers of Shelbyville, 2 sons- Philip (Wife Emily) Martin of Fairland, and Joshua (Wife Trisha) Helvey of Madison, In, 2 daughters- Savannah Helvey of St. Paul, and Lindsay Martin of Shelbyville, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 2 step sisters, 12 grandchildren- Emma Martin, Ben Martin, Gabrial Meadows, Joseph Higdon, Zoey Martin, Gatlin Helvey, Waylon Helvey, Myla Martin, Max Martin, Madison Tabor, Kylie Sparks, and Rosslynn Helvey.

Melissa was a lifetime resident of Shelby county, and had worked as a housekeeper for Office Pride for several years. She attended Bible Holiness Church of Shelbyville. Melissa enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, cooking. She was spunky and spontaneous, but loving and caring. She loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at the Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin Street St. Paul, In on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 2pm, with visitation from 1pm until the time of service. Burial will be at a later date.
