Obituary

Paul J. Gobel, 96, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at MHP Medical Center.

Born March 28, 1927 in Mt. Auburn, he was the son of Samuel Thomas Gobel and Cora (Rutherford) Gobel. He married Doris Marie (Clark) Gobel on December 14, 1946, and she preceded him on May 4, 2007.

Survivors include 2 sons- Mike Gobel (wife Alyce) of Shelbyville, Don Gobel of Shelbyville; daughter-in-law Kerri Laird (husband Tony) of Manilla; special friend and caregiver Peggy Fagel of Shelbyville; 2 grandchildren- Aaron Gobel (wife Theresa), Tara Griffith; 5 great grandchildren - Kyra Springman, Parker Springman, Abby Gobel, Alex Gobel, Micah Price (husband Adam); and one great great grandchild- Clara Jane Price. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, a son Mark Gobel, granddaughter Briana Springman, and 13 brothers and sisters.

Mr. Gobel was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a charter member of the Evangelical Methodist Church. He was employed as a machinist for many years with Custom Machining and Chamber's Aircraft. He was a US Army Korean War veteran. Paul enjoyed horseback riding, traveling, trail riding in Brown County, and the weekly "picnics in the car" with his friend Peggy.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Evangelical Methodist Church, 267 E. Washington St., with Pastor Jim Coulston officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Memorial Squad. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday morning from 11:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Evangelical Methodist Church, PO Box 357, Shelbyville, IN. 46176
