Timothy L. Higgins

Timothy L. Higgins, 68, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Born to William M. and Carol Ilene Higgins on May 7, 1951 in Shelbyville, IN. He was the middle son of 3 boys, along with 2 sisters. He grew up as a kid on Montgomery Street and attended Hendricks Elementary, as did his own children. After graduating from SHS in 1969, he spent most of his adult life on his beloved property on the Old Franklin Road affectionately called "The Farm". Early in life he spent time working at Delenkamp's Service Station, Stewart Sandwich Inc. before beginning a 35 year career working with CUI, which would later become Milestone, Inc. He started as a laborer, then a crane operator, bridge foreman, and General Superintendent for Milestones Southern Region. He was always very proud of his work and even more proud of the friendships he made while there. Never one for personal credit, he spent many a summer weekend hosting his "bridge crew" to celebrate another job well done. Late in his career as his health kept him from daily work, Milestone did everything they could to keep him involved and motivated to come back when he was able. The family is forever grateful for the love and support from Milestone Inc. 

His passions in life were his family; grandkids, great-grandkids, and his love for "old hot rods" especially his restored 1955 Chevy! He had several other beautiful cars including Corvettes and Cadillacs. One of his greatest passions developed into a family business in 2013 when he, along with his son and brother Tony, opened Blue River Arms. They, along with others, enjoyed many years in the gun and ammo business. He also would never be far from an excavator or dozer to continue to play in the dirt and loved just clearing land or helping build a pond. 

He was always quick to share opinions, but only if asked. And, he had several quotes we all learned to love. "When you got kids and dogs, you got kids and dogs!" "You run with the dogs, you're bound to get fleas!"

He served our country in the early 1970's with the Indiana National Guard. He was very proud and loved to share stories of his time served. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #70, the National Rifle Association, L.U. #103 Operating Engineers and Trump 2020 Campaign!

His family will always remember his strong personality and hard work ethic. They include his children; Timothy L Higgins II, Tonya L Higgins, Brandon Byrer (who he lovingly took in as a young kid). Grandchildren; Timothy L Higgins III, Taylor Cloud, Nic Harley, Noah Harley, Connor Logsdon, Maddie Logsdon, and Emma Rios. Great-Grandchildren; Timothy L Higgins IV, Eleanor J. A. Cloud, and Evelyn A. L. Logsdon. Brother, Tony "Hun" Higgins (Patty Higgins). Sister, Ginger Russell. Loved ones that have gone before him include; His mother, Carol Higgins, his father Williams Higgins, brother William Higgins II, and sister Pepper Kent. Nancy Higgins, his loving wife and wonderful mother to his children preceded him in death. He is with her once again. 

The family would like to thank Major Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Cypress Run Rehab, IU Simon Cancer Center and especially Our Hospice of Southern Indiana for their care during his illness.  Donations can be sent to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th St., Columbus, IN 47201 in his honor. His family will be hosting a "Celebration of Life Party" on October 12, 2019 at his farm, 2596 W. Old Franklin Rd. Shelbyville, IN 46176, from noon throughout the evening. They would like to invite anyone who knew and loved him to spend time together as he did so many times. Food and drinks provided, lawn chairs encouraged.
