Virginia A. Swafford

Virginia A. Swafford, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence.

Born August 6, 1934 in Clarksburg, Tennessee, she was the daughter of David W. Anderson and Verna V. (Beal) Anderson.  She married Hoover C. Swafford on August 5, 1950 and he preceded her on November 17, 2006.  Since his death Virginia had grieved for Hoover, and is finally reunited with him.

Survivors include 5 daughters- Inetha Morton (husband Steve) of Brookville, Yevonne Sleeth of Shelbyville, Julie Taggart (husband Tim) of Shelbyville, Janice Dickson (husband Dan) of Locust Grove, Virginia, Voncile Bullard (husband Jerry) of St. Paul; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, a son Hoover C. Swafford, Jr., 2 brothers & 6 sisters.

Mrs. Swafford had lived in this area around 50 years, after moving from Tennessee.  She had been employed at Big Lots in retail recovery for 10 years.  She was a member of St. Paul Fire Dept. Auxiliary, Shelbyville Eagles Lodge, and the Mystery-ettes Homemaker's Club.

Virginia enjoyed gardening, dancing, working jigsaw puzzles, and crafting.  She loved her family, grandkids, and great grandkids, and was always there for them.  Virginia's family would like to extend thank you's to Dr. Emily Andaya and Mainstreet Hospice of Franklin for their special care and concern for their mother.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Mike Crockett officiating. Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
